Frozen Tableau

Groups make a still image of the moment that mattered. Bodies reveal what talk misses.

20 minutes · Groups of 3–5

How to facilitate it

  1. Groups build a still image of the moment that mattered. 90 seconds, no talking.
  2. Photograph each tableau. The audience says what they see before the group explains.
  3. Post titles with the photos. They become the harvest's chapter names.

Reflection prompts

  • Tableaux: Photograph your tableau and give it a title.
  • What we saw: What did you see in the other groups' images?

Credit & lineage

Shared tableau practice; this adaptation is informed by Augusto Boal’s Image Theatre.

Frozen images predate this Studio. Boal is credited for the Image Theatre influence; not every frozen tableau is claimed to be his invention.
